The Best Portable Disc Golf Basket For Every Disc Golfer in 2024

Some of my best portable disc golf basket picks will surprise you.

Well, I’m a big believer in the tried-and-true weighted baseball bat. After a few practice swings with a heavier bat, when you step up to the plate, that bat feels like a feather.

As you will soon see, a useful and simple practice tip like that works for disc golf as well.

The Dynamic Discs Marksman is the best overall because it forces you to hone your putting skills, enabling you to shave several strokes a round and it’s simple to break down and transport.

Some of these brands are likely familiar to you, and some may not.

But the truth is, they are some of the best in the business.

The Best Portable Disc Golf Baskets

  1.  Dynamic Discs Marksman (Best Overall)
  1.  Latitude 64 ProBasket (Best for the Course)
  1.  Mach II (Best for Beginners)
  1.  Mach Lite (Best For Travelers)
  1.  Dynamic Discs Scout (Best Portable Practice Basket)
  1.  Divergent Discs Portable (Best for the Price)
  1.  Black Hole Pro (Honorable Mention)
  1.  Black Hole Precision (Honorable Mention)

Testing Procedure

The best ways to test the best portable disc golf basket are time and actually using the thing. So many of my friends have portable disc golf baskets that are just collecting rust in their backyards, or the canvas material is fading and cracking in places.

I absolutely love practicing on the Dynamic Discs Marksman and the Black Hole Precision, mostly for the reasons I listed above. It forces precision, and when the time comes for that long straddle-putt, the course basket looks like it’s a mile wide!

That doesn’t mean the wider, traditional baskets on this list aren’t effective and worth your time. They’re excellent baskets in their own right and stand the test of time.

There’s no such thing as a metal disc golf basket that won’t oxidize, but the ones on this list are structurally sound and can handle long-term exposure to the elements.

Portable Disc Golf Basket Reviews of Our Top Picks

Now that I’ve covered my list of choices and the basics of my testing procedure, it’s time to review the best portable disc golf baskets on the market.

Hopefully, you’ll get as much out of them as I do!

Dynamic Discs Marksman – Best Portable Disc Golf Basket Overall

best portable disc golf basket

  • 15 zinc-coated chains
  • Two-part pole
  • Tensions screws
  • Powder coated
  • Narrow width for precision practice
  • Electrophoresed

  • 48 lbs
  • 25.2 x 24.02 x 16.14 inches

Why We Chose It

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and the narrow profile of the Dynamic Discs Marksman will make you a better player. For most people, the biggest game-changer on the course is their putting and approach capabilities.

I love these narrow baskets because they force you to minimize your perspective and putt like you’re shooting lasers. Precision and finesse are everything, and a narrow profile like this will improve your overall game in a hurry. Hit up this fantastic practice basket once or twice a day, and you will notice an improvement in your putting game.

Latitude 64 ProBasket – Best Portable Disc Golf Basket for the Course

  • Professional level specs
  • 13 inner and 13 outer chains
  • Galvanized steel
  • PDGA approved up to B-tier events
  • 3” band
  • Tension screws
  • Two-part build for added portability
  • Powder coated

  • 26.93″L x 26.93″W
  • 56 lbs

Why We Chose It

Out of all the portable baskets on the market, the Latitude 64 ProBasket comes the closest to the real thing.

Whether you want to bring it out to courses that lack practice baskets or use it to build your own temporary course, it’s sturdy and is essentially a course basket without the concrete and bolt catch on the bottom.

You can still find baskets, including practice and portable baskets, that lack inner and outer chains. The ProBasket includes the inner and outer rows that disc golfers prefer.

Its galvanized steel and powder-coated finish also make it one of the more resilient baskets on the market.

Mach II – Best Portable Disc Golf Basket For Beginners

  • Hot-dipped, galvanized steel
  • Weather resistant
  • 9 outer and 9 inner chains
  • Portable base
  • Heavy gauge chains

  • ‎27.91 x 27.72 x 10.79 inches
  • 52.4 lbs

Why We Chose It

The thing I love about the DGA Mach II is its simplicity. You won’t find any wild paint graphics or decals on this basket. It’s very straightforward in its presentation.

The hot-dipped, galvanized steel is meant for the great outdoors. In fact, DGA recommends you take it outside and leave it there.

Although it lacks the number of chains of some of the others on this list, it’s a fantastic option for beginners plying their new trade.

It’s not listed as PDGA-approved, but it looks like just about every other basket you’ll see on the course. It’s an effective disc catcher and an excellent backyard or course practice choice.

DGA Mach Lite – Best Portable Disc Golf Basket For Travelers

  • Collapsible
  • Lightweight
  • Carrying Bag
  • 8 inner and 8 outer chains
  • Zinc-plated steel frame
  • Nylon mesh, flexible canvas

  • 26.1 x 14.1 x 7.75 inches
  • 26 lbs

Why We Chose It

The canvas-type, nylon mesh portable disc golf basket is the first type of practice basket I ever owned. It’s a fantastic design, though nylon mesh baskets aren’t always the best at catching discs.

I’m happy to report that the DGA Mach Lite catches discs every bit, as well as some of the better baskets players find on the disc golf course.

It features an inner and outer row of 8 and 8, with most of my putters (I use a Shield, Judge, and Dagger) stopping dead and sinking into the grip of the chains.

The only time discs will glance off of this basket is if you hit the edges. While some of the pro baskets out there may catch those edge-of-the-chains tosses, this one will force you to narrow your scope just a little.

Dynamic Discs Scout – Best Portable Practice Disc Golf Basket

  •  Tripod base
  • Collapsible
  • Carrying bag
  • Lightweight
  • 8 inner, 8 outer, and 2 cross chains
  • Zinc-coated, galvanized steel chains

  • ‎23.5 x 11.3 x 9.3 inches
  • 24 lbs

Why We Chose It

If you’ve read any of my past disc golf articles, you’ll know how much I love the Trilogy line of discs. So, of course, I have to repress my preferences and make the most analytical, fact-driven overviews that I can. Fortunately, the Dynamic Discs Scout represents this third of the trilogy very well.

Much like the DGA Mach Lite, the Scout is a collapsible basket, using canvas-like material for the basket itself and the upper band. The tripod base spreads out wide, providing plenty of stability.

It is lightweight, highly durable, and easy to collapse for carrying in the bag that comes with it.

Divergent Discs Portable – Best Portable Disc Golf Basket for the Price

  • 12 inner and 12 outer chains
  • Welded joints
  • Meets PDGA standards
  • Easy assembly
  • Lightweight

  • 25.0 × 8.0 × 25.0 in
  • 25.5 lbs

Why We Chose It

The Divergent Discs Portable is the second on our list of perfect-through-simplicity baskets. This basket doesn’t stand out from the rest, but it doesn’t have to.

It offers excellent performance without disc golfers having to sell a kidney on the black market to afford it.

The chains are effective at catching plastic, and there’s enough oomph in this basket for long-term durability, inside and outside.

Like most baskets, you don’t have to just putt on it. The build is solid, and it’s more than capable of taking a driver thrown like you’re gunning for an ace run.

Black Hole Pro – Honorable Mention

  • 12 inner and 12 outer chains
  • Optional ground stakes
  • Collapsible
  • Lightweight
  • 6-piece, easy assembly
  • PDGA approved

  • 25.88 x 25.75 x 7.38 inches
  • 33 lbs

Why We Chose It

The Black Hole Pro is an MVP product, a company with a prestigious history in the hallowed halls of disc golf fame. MVP manufactured another success story with the Black Hole Pro.

It’s versatile, easy to break down, simpler to set up, highly durable, and pretty lightweight.

The 12 inner and 12 outer chains effectively catch discs, and I like the collapsible feature of a basket that’s not partially nylon mesh. It’s relatively affordable as well.

The compact nature makes it easy to toss in the trunk, with plenty of room to spare for your disc golf bags, carts, and gear.

Black Hole Precision – Honorable Mention

  • 12 chain setup
  • Narrow profile
  • Course-weighted chains
  • Collapsible
  • Lightweight
  • 6-piece, quick assembly

  • 25 x 25 x 5 inches
  • 45 lbs

Why We Chose It

Of course, I had to choose another narrow precision basket as the last of the last. I simply love these things. They do more to improve your horizontal game than just about anything else you can do on a disc golf course.

The Black Hole Precision deserves an honorable mention because it’s a fantastic, second choice to the Dynamic Discs Marksman.

The powder-coated, galvanized steel chains are highly durable, long-lasting, and effective at catching precision-thrown plastic.

While launching long-distance approach shots and drives at it will probably not end well, the Black Hole Precision is more than effective at improving your putting game.

How To Choose The Best Portable Disc Golf Basket

Choosing the best portable disc golf basket shouldn’t be something you do on a whim. If you’re not into one of the disc golf baskets listed above, there are more options out there. Just because it didn’t make it onto this list doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s worth it.

My advice is always to go with PDGA-approved baskets because they will equal or share very similar dimensions with the baskets on professional courses.

Some of the nylon canvas baskets out there may not be professionally approved, but they are still excellent options. Just be sure to purchase those that are as close to real basket sizes as possible.

Galvanized steel, tempered screws, professional welds, powder-coating, and wide, if portable, bases are the name of the game.

Durability is a huge factor because many of these portable disc golf baskets are going to spend a lot of time outdoors, exposed to potential UV, wind, and rain damage.

If it’s not portable, it doesn’t belong on the list. Some of these portable baskets are heavier than others, so it’s understandable if some of you would prefer to avoid the 40+ lbs options.

Fortunately, there is enough variability here to satisfy just about everyone. Even the lightest baskets on this list are plenty durable and long-lasting.

Type of Basket

With two precision baskets on the list, first and last, you know where my loyalties lie. Not everyone is keen to tackle narrow, precision baskets.

However, I think you can categorize these baskets as nylon mesh, standard, and precision.

The type of basket you want to go with is the one that suits your needs in terms of where you need to improve as a player.

Final Putt: Best Portable Disc Golf Baskets

There you have it—the best portable disc golf baskets on the market today.

I love a good practice basket because my success on the disc golf course often boils down to my ability (or lack thereof) to putt well, especially at what I call “tweeners.” It’s that space that’s just barely outside of your comfort zone, so it affects you psychologically.

These portable disc golf baskets will help you with that. Even the best disc golfers should have one, if for no other reason than to keep their game holding steady at peak level.

If you don’t have a portable practice basket you can take with you on the go, you’re missing out in more ways than one!
